Parenting - Hannah Newell

Parenting is a pen,

an old-fashioned one that leaks

where the ink goes in.

It doesn’t come

with a rubber on the end

but you can cross things out.

Close cross-hatching with

lots of scribbles

is not as neat but

one straight line through

can leave it still

legible.


Bio:

Hannah Newell is a poet from the UK. She read a Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Kent where she wrote and directed a play called Snapshots of Young Love, worked with a literary journal called Banquet and won the Tongue Tied award for spoken poetry. Now she works in homelessness, has two little girls. Words in Sledgehammer lit, Censorship Magazine, Mark Literary Review and Lickety Split journal
